2000 Purchases 100 acres, later to be known as Estates at Emerald Bay, which is widely known as one of the most successful subdivisions on the lake and was 90% sold out in less than 9 months. Tom does numerous real estate and building deals around surrounding counties

2001 Joins Scruggs Fire/Rescue. Studies emergency care techniques and “later” becomes certified as an EMT and practices under the Franklin County OMD, emergency medical skills on the local Ambulance
2001 Joins SML VFC, continues to be elected each year and continues to lead the department in major milestones in public service to the communities of Franklin, Bedford and Pittsylvania Counties.
2001 Joins ALAC
2002 elected to board of directors, serves several years learning POA's and giving to the community.
2002 Starts Firefighter Training passes exams and becomes a Company 11 Bedford County Fire Fighter One, Tom continues training in Bedford and Franklin County Public Safety Departments and is now certified in HAZMAT and working on Firefighter II credentials, along with continuous training required to maintain Emergency Medical Technician, (EMT) credentials.
2003 Joins the Chamber of Commerce.
2003 Elected to executive Board
2004 is elected by the 300 member organization with 12 board members to the executive board as the Vice President. In 2005 Tom Lovegrove is elected the SML Chamber President and accomplishes one of the largest membership drives in the history of the chamber, growing the organization from 400 to 600 members. Instills many new programs, one of which is the real estate word and excel files of leads providing valuable demographic info to the member community. During these Chamber years, Tom interviews and recommends the hiring of Vicki Gardner who he considers one of the most successful Executive Directors in the Chamber History.
2004 Tom launches Phase II of Emerald Bay, now known as the Villages of Emerald Bay He forms Bayview Construction Company and takes the Emerald Bay project through FERC/AEP and SMP review, getting no complaints, and is approved for community slips. Tom points out this was the right environmental way, as single docks would have affected fisheries and the view shed negatively. Emerald Bay docks are some of the most exquisitely constructed and finely finished docks in the county. Tom Lovegrove is voted by the membership of the SML Laker Magazine, Publisher: Micah Gaudio as one of the most influential members of the community.
2005 Tom focuses on construction of the latest and only Smart House high tech community in the history of Franklin County, with Fiber Optics and Community WIFI. Winning accolades for building construction quality from subcontractors like Kohler, the Smith Mountain Laker readership voted the community one of the top communities in the area. Tom started looking at a customer focused methodology for development and building.
2005 Pruitt Contractors, co-founded by Barry Pruitt in 1985, became one of the largest framing companies in the Roanoke Valley by 2005. After working with Pruitt Construction for several years, Tom hired Co-Founder Barry Pruitt to bring across Mr. Pruitt and a construction team that has worked together since 1985 bringing expertise unparalleled in the industry to deliver customer satisfaction.In final hour of
12-31-05 many of us were preparing for the new year, Tom was signing deeds and recording the largest donation in the history of Fire and Rescue in all three counties by working with AEP for a donation recording. This was the first acquisition of real estate in the 30 year history of the Smith Mountain Lake Fire and Rescue Company.
2006 Tom has built several luxury homes, viewable at
www.villagesatemeraldbay.com, while making construction acquisitions and growing Bayview Construction Company into one of the largest employee based home building companies in the area focused on building homes 3,000 sq. feet or larger on the shores of SML.In late
2006 Tom concluded negotiations to secure a key employee from working for the largest home building companies in the world, Lamar and Pulte and hired the senior executive. Tom's company is now capable of fulfilling of all his customers needs from Dirt to Doorknob. The team has already built several skilled crews capable of utilities, road building, underground plumbing, irrigation, public sewer and public water while acquiring major heavy operating equipment.
2006 Bayview Construction Company completes one of the first FCC Class A rated Smart Houses in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The web site

2007 Bayview Construction Company is the first certified developer-builder to become Certified Advantex Affluent Treatment Installers in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Elected to membership in VOWRA – Virginia Onsite Wastewater Recycling Association.
